Microsoft Word FAQs

How do I format Check Boxes when they are part of my Word document (and not connected to a database)?

Checkboxes in your MS Word document / form need to have Help Text associated with them in order to be 508 compliant. The help text identifies the checkbox to the assisted technology software prgrams.

To add Help Text to the checkbox (where there is no database connection):

1. place your cursor over the checkbox, and right mouse click.

2. Select “Add text help” button from the Properties dialog box to enter text for the checkbox.

3. Enter unique information for that checkbox. For example:  Checkbox for policy question”.

4. Save the property and return to your document.
